29th Aug. 2023: Municipal Board Of Kitale Calls for a special board sitting after the unfortunate demise of Mr.Ery Werunga, a board Member.

In an unfortunate turn of Events, the municipal board of Kitale lost a board member After A short illness. The deceased was a sitting board chair at the time of his demise. Mr.Ery Werunga had spearheaded a number of projects within the Municipal Board. He leaves behind a legacy of determination, resilience and commitment to the course. His body will be entered on 2nd September 2023 at His Muliro Home in Ndalu.

The municipal board resolved to support the family in burial arrangements.

Contracting of interns

The County Public Service Board entered into contract with interns from the state department of housing and urban development who had been instrumental in implementation of donor funded projects and programmes within Kitale Municipality, to support the municipal board in offering the essential services at the municipality. They were the Municipal Environment officer and a civil/structural engineer.

22nd Nov 2023: Municipal board of Kitale holds its Full board meeting to set out strategies on KUSP 2 Preparedness.

The Kenya urban support program had set out minimum conditions that required early preparation. This includes having full time staff for the purposes of independence and implementation of their projects and programs. This would enable them execute their mandate effectively.

Functions were to be transferred from other county departments to municipality as envisioned in the Kitale Municipal charter 2019 and the Urban areas and Cities Act 2019 such as waste management, Infrastructure development, Development Control, Revenue collection, Outdoor Advertisements among others.

10th January 2024: Municipal Board of Kitale holds a special board sitting to discuss budget estimates

The municipal board of Kitale called for a special sitting to review last year performance and discuss priority projects for its next financial year F/Y 2024/25.

This is important since the previous year, the board was not able to initiate a number of projects.

The finance Committee chair madam Ann Tulienge presented the Finance committee report which envisioned a number of projects including the Beautification Toluene of Machinjoni dumpsite, installation of water tanks at Bondeni Market among others.

25TH MAR 2024: Kitale Municipal board Holds its quarterly full Board meeting.

-The board was concerned that the dumpsite at Machinjoni was in bad shape and needed urgent attention. The municipal officer will be liaising with the department of Environment to strategize on how the issue will be addressed including digging a shallow landfill and rehabilitation of the access road.

-The board will engage the Department of Finance to Facilitate the completion of Masinde Muliro Business centre that was at 96% complete as reported by consultant. This will help in relocation of vendors who were using the streets within the CBD.It was projected that the construction will be complete by December 2024.

-There are plans to facelift Kitale Town using appropriate common colours on buildings. A Stakeholder will be called upon to give proposals on this.

18-June -2024: Municipal Board of Kitale Approves an integrated Urban Development Plan

During the full board sitting, Municipal Board of Kitale approved the Kitale Municipality’s Integrated Development Plan after several stages of Multisectoral engagements. This is a five-year blue print to the development plans of the municipality.

The sitting sets the end of the five-year term of the pioneer municipal board of Kitale. The appointment process of another board is ongoing.

The board leaves behind a clear structure and system for urban governance, a number of development projects key among them being the Masinde Muliro Business Centre that is almost complete and a number of policies and plans that will guide the development of the municipality of Kitale
